Prayers for the earthquake and tsunami survivors

May God be with all those who are bereaved,
injured and homeless in the aftermath of
the earthquake in Afghanistan and
the Solomon Islands, hit with devastating
tsunamis.

Quake strikes north Afghanistan

A strong earthquake has struck northern Afghanistan,
shaking cities in neighbouring Pakistan and Kashmir.

Tsunami Leaves 100,000 Homeless in Solomon Islands (Update2)

April 3 (Bloomberg) -- More than 100,000 people are
homeless after a tsunami struck the Solomon Islands
yesterday, destroying villages and killing 12 people in
the South Pacific island nation.

``Basically everyone has lost their homes, their gardens,''
Alex Lokopio, premier of Western Province said by telephone
today from Gizo Island, one of the worst-hit areas. ``That's
over 100,000 people in this region and Choiseul province.''

A magnitude 8 earthquake, 41 kilometers off the coast of
Gizo, triggered the tsunami that sent 10-meter (33-foot)
high waves crashing into coastal settlements. The Solomons
government declared a state of emergency.
